As General Manager of Derecktor Dania, you will be building on our 50+ year history as South Florida’s most complete large-yacht repair facility, and leading a team of 70+ staff and other partners to deliver the exceptional quality work Derecktor is known for. The General Manager will also help shape the capabilities, facilities, and relationships to maintain Derecktor’s leadership in the dynamic South Florida market.
Primary accountabilities include:
- Achieving the yard’s business/revenue/safety and environmental objectives
- Managing all aspects of daily operations to include, but not limited to maintenance, scheduling, planning/budgeting, facility management, safety and environmental compliance, and all facets of project management including bidding, estimating, budgeting, and scheduling to ensure projects are on time, within budget and meet customer expectations
Responsibilities:
- Manage the daily operations of the yard
- Build, motivate, and reward a strong team of managers and team members
- Build and maintain strong company relationships with captains, owners, operators, management companies, government agencies, classification societies, vendors, and industry groups involved in yacht repair/refit
- Work on business development efforts which include estimating, scheduling, and bidding projects for new and existing customers
- Implement systems of controls to accurately measure performance and identify areas for improvement
- Ensure all projects are completed safely within budget while maintaining high quality standards
- Assess and manage project risks and opportunities
- Prepare and present project performance reports and recommend continuous improvements
- Continually improve, communicate and ensure adherence to company policies and procedures
- Accountable for fulfillment of all contractual/proposal requirements
- Develop annual operating, maintenance and repair, and capital project plans and budgets
- Manages facility assets to include land, buildings, and equipment
- Create and uphold a culture and climate of pride and continuous improvement through employee empowerment, communication, and effective management
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree - Engineering, Naval Architecture, Management, or similar qualification preferred
- Proven management track record in a primary leadership role (7+ years) in yacht or commercial shipyard industry highly desirable. Will consider construction/manufacturing roles.

Senior Naval Architect coordinates activities of multiple shipyard operations to include development of lifting and blocking plans for dry-dock, elevator and strap lift operations as required. Responsibilities also include design work related to new building and refit/ repair projects to ensure that the goals and objectives of the project are accomplished within the prescribed time frame and funding parameters and production management on key large projects. Apply intense and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of technical responsibilities. The Naval Architect/Marine Engineer will perform essential duties and responsibilities individually and/or through coordination with other managers and engineers.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering
- 10 years related industry experience in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering
- A U.S. Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the field of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering is preferred
- At least 5 years of experience working as field engineer in a shipyard is required
- Fluency in AUTOCAD™ or similar 2D design software is required, 3D experience a plus
- At least 5 years experience in providing production design support to shipyards in new vessel construction, refit, repair, and vessel modification.
- The ideal candidate will have documented experience with IACS Classification Society rules, ABS Ice Class Rules, 33 & 46 CFR, MARPOL, SOLAS, Stability book interpretation and other codes applicable to vessel design and engineering
- Experience with Microsoft Suite and MS Project a must
- Strong English language verbal and written skills are required
- Experience should involve performing the engineering assignments associated with the systems design to ensure proposed designs meet the contract requirements

Derecktor Shipyard is hiring an experienced Inside Machinist to work in a marine environment Candidates must have experience operating manual machines.
Responsibilities:
- Fabricate, modify and remanufacture parts required to maintain, repair and/or create shipboard parts and equipment
- Set up machines, adjust settings, perform calibration, maintenance, and repairs
- Apply knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, machinability of materials, layout, and machining
- Operate computer controlled and manual machine shop equipment
- Ability to operate lathes, milling machines, planer, drill presses, and grinder, etc.
- Interpret mechanical drawings/blueprints, design and implement CAD drawings for machining of parts
- Perform machine maintenance

Additionally, welder will be involved in the repair, modification, and assembly of various types of metal.

- MUST have experience in ALUMINUM welding

- Must be able to perform lay out, fabricate, assemble, install repair and maintain marine plumbing and pipe systems
- Must be able to safely remove, repair and pressure test ship valves before reinstalling
- Must be able to plumb shoreside cooling towers to a yachts HVAC system as well as be able to maintain the cooling towers themselves
- Experience in CuNi, aluminum, steel, PVC and CPVC piping required
- Experience with ViegaPress® or ProPress® systems a plus
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, select proper materials and equipment to complete projects preferred.

Description:
Shipyard Estimator for Derecktor develops estimates for assigned projects including detailed cost estimates for ship repair, new construction, and other shipyard projects.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of five (5) years of shipyard estimating or related experience, with at least 10 years of relevant experience within the marine industry.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification a plus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. Multilingual a plus.
- Utilize Microsoft Office applications, Project and AutoCad a plus.
- Interpret and understand blueprints, schematics and built to print drawings.
- Review, breakdown and otherwise interpret specifications, rules, requirements, drawings, and other technical data.
- Demonstrate a general understanding of systems aboard vessels.
- Perform ship checks aboard vessels.
- Develops a detailed itemized listing of required work tasks based on a review of bid request, associated documents and ship check.
- Produce in-house labor takeoffs and estimates for required work. Interface with foreman as required.
- Produce material takeoffs and estimates for required work. Interface with purchasing agents and suppliers/vendors to obtain quotations.
- Interface with subcontractors to obtain estimates on projects.
- Develop long lead and critical material lists as required.
- Develop estimates, submittals, proposals, bid summaries in quantitative and narrative form.
- Analyze subcontractor quotes to determine the best choices for sourcing.
- Work closely with Project and Yard Managers to compare subcontractors to in-house costs to make outsourcing decisions.
- Develop in-house labor budgets, notional sequencing along with task and overall project schedule duration.
- Work with Project Managers to develop repair or production plans.
- Lead transition from ‘opportunity’ project to ‘live’ project by communicating with Project Manager and other team leads project and estimate details used in bid.

- Excellent negotiation and communication skills with a domestic or international clientele.
- General knowledge of a wide range of marine vessels.
- Excellent ability to review, breakdown and otherwise interpret specifications, rules, requirements, drawings, and other technical data into task or root level for development of takeoffs and estimates.
- General understanding and familiarity of marine classification and flag rules and requirements.
- General understanding of “marine best principles”.
